Join us for our monthly First Friday ArtWalk! We have a special treat with Steven Hansen taking the stage at 7pm for a solo performance. Admission is free, but we'll be taking donations to go toward the restoration of our historic 1929 atmospheric theatre. Come by and check it out!

ALSO, Del Mar College architecture design and drafting students will have all their work on display in our lobby. Del Mar students have spent over a year redrawing the entire theatre so that we can have certified plans to use for the restoration. Thanks to Laura N. Bennett for leading that amazing group!!!

Clarissa Serna, our famous hometown girl, competing now on The Voice, will perform LIVE at The Ritz Theatre to support the historic Ritz Theatre restoration. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime performance. We'll be recording the evening as part of our "LIVE at The Ritz: The Revival Sessions" which we hope will attract attention to The Ritz from people far and wide. Clarissa will be performing with her band and also doing a "storytellers" type of performance, taking the audience on a journey of where she's come from and where she's going. Don't miss out on this unique event and support The Ritz!

We'll be sharing these one-of-a-kind performances with the world, but you could be part of the history and enjoy the event in person! Support The Ritz and help bring her back to life.

Ritz Cleanup
Saturday, January 19th
9am till 2pm

It's time to roll up our sleeves and do some work! Teams will be committed to light deconstruction projects in our front lobby and general cleanup around the theatre. Previous experience in repair, carpentry and construction is a plus, but not required. Water, equipment and work gloves will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own tools as well.

KING OF THE RITZ - Elvis Day

Game starts at 1:05 pm, ceremony and concert to happen post-game, approximately 4pm

We will have festivities pre-game and during the game, followed by a post-game ceremony and concert

The event is made possible by a grant from the Corpus Christi Arts and Cultural Commission

Elvis and Rock and Roll were banned in Corpus Christi in 1956 (see link: http://www.elvis-history-blog.com/elvis-corpus-christi.html)
We will ceremoniously lift the ban on Elvis as a celebration of Corpus Christi culture and also bring attention to the restoration of The Historic Ritz Theatre, built in 1929. Elvis was reported to have played there in the early 1950's.

Cleanup The Ritz - Part 2

We still have some cleaning up left over from the last one to prepare to start filming our documentary event on July 1st (well, we film at the cleanups too). Get your hands dirty and help The Ritz!

Main things we need to do:
Rip up carpet in stairwells
Build wheelchair ramp on right or left side of lobby
Replace ceiling tiles in lobby (donated by KJM Commercial!)
General trash cleanup
Rope off seats that are unsafe that we are not taking out
Retouch the mural
Repair windows on front of building
Clean up projection booth
Clean up parking lot (can someone bring a weed-eater? Mine is broken)
Paint the bar
We'll have on hand good face masks with filters, trash bags, we have 50 sets of gloves, building materials, about 10 brooms with dust pans, a wheel barrow, general cleaning supplies, etc. we could use extra hand tools (write your name on them) Bring a friend! Call Monica with questions! 947-8457

JUNIOR LEAGUE’S HELPING HANDS – “PATCHING UP THE RITZ”

On Saturday, April 4th, 2009, members of the Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. (JLCC) will once again put on their tool belts, grab their paintbrushes and bring the positive energy needed to complete their Helping Hands – “Patching Up The Ritz” Project! Beginning at 9:00 a.m. and running through 2:30 p.m., JLCC members will begin by cleaning the lobby area of the Ritz Theatre located at 715 N. Chaparral Street.  In addition, the abandoned look of the building as provided by the current plywood-covered windows will be replaced with a removable, hinged covering complete with a colorful painted mural – all designed and provided by JLCC members as a gift to the community in partnership with PATCH, Inc. As part of the JLCC’s continuing hands-on community outreach, the restoration of the Ritz Theatre falls squarely within The League’s Vision Statement: Together we will build a better future by responding to community needs, working together for positive change, and enhancing the potential of our membership.

This year’s festival welcomes back Italian Street Painting and internationally recognized guest artists Julie Kirk and Melanie Stimmell, who will demonstrate this intriguing art on Hughes and or Brewster Streets throughout the festival dates.

The Yin Yang Fandango Drum Circle will treat DTOWN with their funky music flow. And make sure to check out our fantastic businesses showing fabulous local art!
